Employee Recruitment and Hiring

Ensuring a Diverse TSU

The Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) ensures that the University takes affirmative action to guarantee that during the employment process all individuals are treated without regard to their race, color, religion, ethnic or national origin, sex, disability, age or status as a covered veteran. In an effort to reaffirm TSU’s equal employment opportunity policy in all personnel actions, we take an active role in the hiring process beginning with recruitment and following through to new employee orientation. The following information provides more detail about our roles and responsibilities in the University’s hiring and recruitment processes, as well as, some helpful resources for hiring managers regarding the requirements of TSU’s EO/AA policy.

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION
The University has also developed an affirmative action plan to guide in working toward the creation and maintenance of a diverse environment in which students and employees are encouraged to think, work and serve. The affirmative action plan ("AAP") is designed to aid in University compliance with all applicable federal laws and regulations. To review the current AAP or for more information, please contact OEI.

SEARCH COMMITTEES
Equity and Inclusion has developed a  Search Committee Guideline  that coincides with Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) and TSU hiring policies and procedures. This guide is supplemental to TSU's recruiting and hiring policies and procedures and is not inclusive of all matters related to the hiring process. Any questions regarding the implementation of the guidance should be directed to  Equity and Inclusion  or the  Human Resources Office  at 963-5281.

TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT
Effective Date: July 1, 2014
The Office of Equity and Inclusion, in conjunction with the Office of Human Resources, has developed a guideline that will allow for more consistency in the employment of staff in exempt, temporary positions. With this guideline, positions must now be reviewed and approved by both the Equity and Inclusion and Human Resources offices prior to receiving approval to fill an exempt position on a temporary basis.

Temporary employment contracts for positions that fall under this guideline, which are submitted without the required recruitment form, will be returned to the hiring manager without review.  To prevent hiring delays, please complete the form in its entirety.

See the Temporary Employment Guideline and required Temporary Employee Recruitment Plan Form for more details. To save your responses in the form, first save a copy of the form to your files and then complete the form fields.
