Greetings Tennessee State University Family, Friends, and Alumni

It is my upmost honor to welcome you to Homecoming 2024: “The Big Blue Experience”. The homecoming committee along with myself has been working tirelessly to ensure that this homecoming is one to be both remembered and enjoyed by all. We are excited to have each one of you return to “The Land of Golden Sunshine” as we bask in the TSU spirit. Homecoming is a special time for our university. During this time, we witness friends being reconnected, new memories being made, and alumni enjoying and displaying the Big Blue Spirit.

The excitement of homecoming begins Saturday (10/5/24) night as the students will have the annual “Homecoming Balloon Drop Countdown”. This is a special time for our students to celebrate and usher in the homecoming season. On Sunday, we will have the Robert N. Murrell Oratorical contest that will take place on campus in the Floyd Payne Campus Center Forum. Wednesday night will bring a timeless tradition that has been ongoing for 90 plus years, and that is the coronation of Mister and Miss Tennessee State University. We ask that you join us in Kean Hall seven o’clock in the evening to witness the newest lineage in TSU Royalty.

We will keep the homecoming train rolling on Thursday as we will have a host of events for all ages. Events such as the Ralph Boston and Dr. Catana Starks Gold Tournament, President’s Society Luncheon, and the Dr. Levi Watkins Jr. White Coat Ceremony will all be going on throughout the day on Thursday, Oct. 10th, 2024. To cap off the day will be the infamous Alumni Black Out which is the ultimate alumni mixer to help welcome back alumni of all generations. Please contact the Office of Alumni Relations for more information.

Friday will bring some of Tennessee State’s classic homecoming festivities. The Charles Campbell Fish Fry will kickoff at ten o’clock in the morning and will be hosted by the Nashville Alumni Chapter of TSU. Following the Fish Fry, we invite all to meet us in Hale Stadium, “The Hole”, as we will have our unforgettable Homecoming Pep Rally. Come enjoy our Aristocrat of Bands (AOB), cheerleaders, live DJ, and more. While on campus, we ask you to go back and visit your former resident halls and academic buildings as each one of them will be decorated to celebrate and promote Big Blue cheer throughout campus. Friday evening will be home to our Divine 9 Step Show in the Gentry Complex and the Homecoming Gala at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. As chair, I wanted to show my appreciation to each one of you. To do so – I will be having a nice mixer at the Sheraton Music City following the Homecoming Gala called “You Coming or Nah?”. Join us as we continue to celebrate the Big Blue and get excited for both our Homecoming Parade and football game the following day.

Saturday, Oct. 12th, 2024, we will have our Homecoming Parade that will go down Jefferson Street. The parade is always a great time to showcase the both the TSU and Nashville community. This is also where we will honor our Grand Marshals and Homecoming Honorees for 2024: Mr. Jesse Eugene Russell and Mrs. Clarice Phelps. These honorees have embodied the motto of THINK – WORK – SERVE in both their professional and personal lives and have made significant contributions to society. To cap off the homecoming season, join us at Nissan Stadium as our Big Blue Fightin’ Tigers take on the Panthers of Eastern Illinois at five o’clock in the evening. We are excited to support Coach Eddie George and Tigers and help propel them to victory.

As you can see, The Big Blue Experience is guaranteed to have something for Tigers of all ages! I am excited and can not wait for you all to return to The Land of Golden Sunshine.

Again, Welcome Home Tigers!

In Tiger Spirit,

Andre Bean, Ph.D.
