Bachelors of Science in Biology

Teachers Certification in Biology

A major in Biology with a teaching certification requires 122 semester hours, that consists of 43 credit hours of general education courses (9 credits of Communication Courses; 9 credits of Humanities and Fine Arts Courses; 6 credits of Social/Behavioral Science Courses; 3 credits of Math, 6 credits of History Courses, 8 credits of Natural Science Courses; 1 credit of University Orientation) 59 credit hours of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics Courses and 21 credit hours of Education Courses. MATH 1720 or higher is required to take Physics. No grade of less than “C” in any Biology Course will be accepted as credit toward meeting Departmental requirements.

All Teacher Education/Blocked courses are required and will be offered only during the indicated semesters of the Junior and Senior Years.

Teacher Licensure Candidates are only eligible to participate in professional education classes upon successful admission to the Teacher Education program at the conclusion of their sophomore year.
