Youngjae Choi
Assistant Professor
Civil and Architectural Engineering
Bio.: Dr. Youngjae Choi is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering at Tennessee State University. Before joining TSU, he was a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at University of California, Irvine. He received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). Prior to pursuing his Ph.D. study, he worked as a structural engineer in South Korea for three years and prior to attending university he served for two-and-a-half year in the Korea Marine Corps as an infantryman. Dr. Choi’s professional and research interests include earthquake and structural engineering, infrastructure materials, 3D concrete printing, and their application in the design and construction of civil infrastructures to improve their constructability, durability, resilience, and sustainability. He was awarded the Mete A. Sozen Award for Excellence in Structural Research from the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and the Excellent Research in Earthquake Engineering Award from the Earthquake Engineering Society of Korea (EESK). In addition, Dr. Choi mentored many graduate students to help them succeed in their research work and many undergraduate students through NSF’s Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program. |
