Dr. Deo Chimba and 13 students from Tennessee State University attended the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., from January 5 to 8, where they presented various research papers covering topics such as railroad crossing safety, microsimulation of traffic operations, large vehicle crash analysis, sustainable transportation, and machine learning applications in transportation. The conference provided students with a unique platform to showcase their research, gain exposure to cutting-edge transportation innovations, and engage with leading professionals in the field. Beyond presentations, Dr. Chimba met with project managers from key research sponsors, including the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), strengthening collaborations for ongoing and future research initiatives. FRA officials also engaged with the students in discussions on various topics, including research opportunities, career pathways, and other motivational insights that inspired them to explore new possibilities in the transportation sector. Students benefited greatly from the experience, gaining insights from diverse perspectives at one of the world’s largest transportation conferences, networking with industry leaders, and receiving potential job and internship opportunities that will enhance their career prospects.
