Cummings Engine Donation

TSU College of Engineering Receives Heavy-Duty Engine Donation from Cummins to Support Hands-On Student Training

Nashville, TN — Tennessee State University’s College of Engineering received a significant equipment donation this week from Cummins Inc., a global leader in power and engine technology. The College held its official donation celebration on November 11, 2025, marking the receipt of a fully functional heavy-duty diesel engine that will enhance hands-on learning, laboratory instruction, and applied research opportunities for TSU engineering students.

The new engine expands the College’s capacity to support coursework and projects in areas such as mechanical systems, automotive and mobility engineering, diagnostics, and engine performance evaluation. Faculty are integrating the equipment into lab modules, senior design experiences, and classroom demonstrations that connect engineering theory with real-world application.

The College notes that this donation strengthens its ability to provide students with direct access to industry-standard technology, supporting practical skill development aligned with careers in advanced manufacturing, transportation, energy systems, and mechanical design.

The engine has already been installed in the engineering laboratories, where students will engage in hands-on work related to:

  • Engine diagnostics and mechanical testing

  • Powertrain and fuel system analysis

  • Emissions and efficiency studies

  • Data collection and performance modeling

  • Applied research and senior design innovations

TSU and Cummins will continue exploring additional areas of partnership in support of engineering education, professional development, and workforce preparation.
