Mechanical Engineering Student Lakeesa Gilyard has been awarded for  Ascend Federal Credit Union Scholarship $5000. She  chose ME major because a young black woman in the STEM field is powerful to her. She know this path that she is in will be a challenging one. She don’t see a lot of people that look like her in this male dominated profession, but that’s ok because she hope to be that woman for the generation to come. she don’t hear a lot of young girls wanting to be an engineer, but she can only hope that her presence will spike interest in young black girls to come. As first generation college student, she has done well in her academic studies and community services.  Congratulation to her.
