National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI)
(rising 9th-12th high school students)
The objectives of NSTI are to provide awareness of transportation careers to high school students, enhance participants STEM skills, and encourage participants to consider pursuing a transportation-related major in college. This program is administered by the Tennessee Department of Transpiration (TDOT) and funded by the Federal Highway Administration. The program is 4 weeks with the first 3 weeks being residential on TSU campus and the last week being virtual: June 9-July 5, 2024, at TSU Main Campus.
Program Costs:
- NSTI: Free (Housing and meals provided)
Scholarships: Available for up to 20 students

Application Requirements:
- Complete online application
- Upload Official high or middle school transcript
- Official ACT/SAT/PSAT scores if available
- Upload a One-page essay describing your career objective(s), interest in engineering, and how the NSTI Program can assist you in reaching your goals. Your essay must be typed, pdf preferred, 12pt font and cannot exceed one (1) page.
- Upload One recommendation letter from Counselor or Teacher that is on letterhead, has recommender contact information (email and phone #), signed and dated. Please emailed to Professor Kang Du at (kdu@tnstate.edu ) directly from the Counselor or Teacher.
