Agroforestry System for Bioenergy
A real challenge and opportunity lies in how agricultural and forestry efforts can actually be integrated sustainably to meet the future renewable energy targets facing the United States and the world. Creating an integrated, diverse, and productive landuse system that combines energy crops and trees does just that. Bioenergy production in Agroforestry System that provide economic and ecological benefits as well as diversified production of mixed system seems to be appropriate in this scenario. The current project is looking into the use of agroforestry system as integrated feedstock biomass production for energy — a switchgrass and loblolly pine trees combinations.
This project is supported by NIFA through Evans-Allen Research Program.
