About the ProgramThe Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Leadership, Education, and Communication concentration include the concepts and practices involved in family and consumer sciences education, leadership development, and communication. The curriculum focuses on the human interface with the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual environments and the developmental stages and needs of individuals in the interrelated spheres of family, workplace, and community. In addition, the program provides students a solid foundation in family and consumer sciences, including how individuals develop and function in family, work, and community settings and how they relate to their physical, social, emotional, and intellectual environments. Students graduate with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Family and Consumer Sciences with a concentration in Consumer Sciences Leadership, Education, and Communication. Students can declare a specialization in FCS Leadership or FCS Education Professional OpportunitiesThe program gives students an appreciation of family and consumer sciences, an understanding of leadership theory and its application to improve the lives of individuals, families, and consumers. Students leave the program committed to family and consumer science leadership, diversity, critical thinking, and problem-solving. FCS educators combine classroom, laboratory instruction, leadership development, and experiential learning to offer their students a well-rounded education that will prepare them for college and the workforce.
