Academic Support Services for International Students

The International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) at Tennessee State University is committed to providing adequate support services to meet the unique needs of international student and scholars. ISSS goal is to provide essential support services to all international students to help them achieve their academic and personal goals.

ISSS Academic Support Services

  • Offers supplemental academic support services to international students to promote student academic success and progression.
  • Provides Academic support services to international students upon arrival on campus to ease the transition into U.S. higher education and continue throughout the academic year
  • Provides information about Student Success at TSU located on the Main Campus in the Student Success Center, which is the hub for academic and student support services.
  • Monitors international students' academic progress to provide necessary and timely early intervention support services.
  • Meets with individual students who are identified as "at risk students" on multiple occasions to provide critical resources to ensure students are following recommendations to address identified problem areas.
  • Conducts Academic Integrity and Plagiarism Workshops mostly led by Dr. Samantha Morgan-Curtis, Director of the WRITE Center.
  • Strives to maintain a welcoming and safe environment that helps in building a collaborative relationship with students ensuring that students have positive experience and satisfaction.
  • Follow-up with students needing early intervention before and after the midterms to discuss any academic challenges and success to motivate students to improve performance.

The International Student and Scholars Staff is dedicated to assisting international students upon arriving on campus, provide support to ease the transition into U.S. higher education and continue to provide support throughout the academic year.
