London | Dr. LaPorchia Davis
Dr. LaPorchia Davis embarked on a Teaching and Training experience abroad at Middlesex University and London Metropolitan University in London.
During her visit, Dr. Davis had the opportunity to:
1) Share her insights on the HBCU experience and TSU's Fashion Program.
2) Engage with students and learn about their work, fostering cross-cultural understanding and potentially sparking future collaborations.
3) Tour Middlesex University's facilities, including classrooms, design studios, and materials labs, gaining valuable insights into international teaching methods and resources that can benefit TSU students upon her return
London & Denmark | Dr. Donghyun Kang
Dr. Donghyun Kang took part in an enriching experience abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark, and London, United Kingdom. She attended the 31st Annual Conference of the Society for the Scientific Study of Reading (SSSR) as part of her research initiatives and visited the University of Roehampton to develop a faculty-led study abroad program.
During her visit, Dr. Kang had the opportunity to:
1) Learn about various intervention programs, such as the class-wide dialogic reading approach and the i-SMART program, which integrate psychological principles to support reading development.
2) Have a campus tour at the University of Roehampton and discuss a faculty-led study abroad program.
Kazakhstan | Dr. John Miglietta
Dr. John Miglietta had an enriching experience in Astana, Kazakhstan, through his visit to the Nazarbayev University.
Dr. Miglietta conducted multiple lectures on topics such as Comparative Politics, International Law, American Government, and International Relations, engaging over 100 students in some sessions and smaller groups in others, highlighting the diverse academic interactions during the visit.
He held meetings with various academic leaders, including the Vice-Dean at Nazarbayev University and the Model UN leadership team, to discuss potential collaborations and the development of a Memorandum of Understanding between institutions.
Ireland | Dr. Janet Otachi
Dr. Janet Otachi had an enriching experience in Galway, Ireland, through her visit to the University of Galway. Dr. Otachi had the opportunity to:
1) Meet with staff and faculty, stay in student housing, and experienced campus life, including visiting lecture halls and amenities.
2) Explore Galway City and surrounding areas to understand the cultural and recreational activities available to students.
Looking ahead, Dr. Otachi's focus is on developing a program proposal and related materials within the Department of Social Work and Urban Studies. She is also working toward establishing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between TSU and the University of Galway.
Italy | Dr. Raganathan Parthasarathy
Dr. Parthasarathy engaged in an impactful collaboration with the Università degli Studi di Sassari's Department of Architecture, Design, and Urban Planning in Italy. He participated in the International Conference on Nonlinear Solid Mechanics (ICoNSoM), where he presented his lecture on "Highly Stretchable and Tough Pantograph-Inspired Lattice Metamaterials," showcasing innovative advancements in the field.
Dr. Parthasarathy’s collaboration with the Università degli Studi di Sassari underscores the significance of the Global Faculty Fellows program at Tennessee State University. His participation in the International Conference on Nonlinear Solid Mechanics not only highlighted his research on pantograph-inspired lattice metamaterials but also fostered valuable international connections in the fields of architecture and engineering. This experience enhances TSU’s global academic presence and enriches the educational opportunities for faculty and students alike.
