Student Organizations

Chemistry Club
The Chemistry Club of Tennessee State University is an organization of undergraduate students, run by student officers and supervised by Dr. Moore, the chemistry club faculty advisor.

The purpose of the chemistry club is to raise awareness, both on campus and off, and to stimulate interest for chemistry and the sciences with chemistry demonstrations and through interactions with children of all age groups and adults. In addition, the chemistry club also provides tutoring to undergraduate students, and it helps to the Chemistry Department run its annual “Celebrate Chemistry” Day.

Activities of the chemistry club are planned and discussed in regularly scheduled meetings held in the chemistry department building during the academic semester. Click here to check out the new Chemistry Club website.

The Chemistry Journal Club
The Chemistry Journal Club (CJC) is an informal (part educational, part social) journal club that meets once a week, day/time TBA, in the Chemistry Department conference room, Boswell 201. Journal club members present recent research results from the literature and covers a very wide range of topics relevant to the chemical sciences. Feel free to suggest topics, articles, or speakers, or to volunteer to present a talk. Presentations should be informal, short and simple, and not require much preparation. Please contact me and let me know if you would like to be involved and give or help with a presentation! All are welcome!

CJC Mission Statement: The mission of the CJC is to expose students to a broad spectrum of chemical research through the critical analysis and presentation of current articles from the chemical literature.

Chemistry Graduate Student Association

The mission of the Chemistry Graduate Student Association or the CGSA is be a solid unit amongst its members. It is set up for support not just for academics but also for social activities. We participate in community service projects and fundraisers to bring in speakers for the department’s Chemistry Day. In the future we hope to help in recruitment of new graduate students and also the retention of current students. The president serves as the liaison between the graduate students and faculty within the chemistry department.
