TSU Enrollment Trends: 2007 - Present

College of Agriculture Enrollment Holds Strong

By Dr. Chandra Reddy
Dean, Tennessee State University College of Agriculture

In response to concerns I'm hearing from TSUAg stakeholders in the agriculture industry about the state of enrollment at TSU and how it would impact our programming, we did some research on the enrollment trends we've seen at the College over the last 17 years. While the University's enrollment has declined by 30% over the period between 2007 and the present, the College of Agriculture is experiencing growth and has experienced it in a progressive, continuous manner, as our figures show (see second graph). We took a deep dive and analyzed the student enrollment trends at the university level and with the agricultural programs. Here are our findings:

s

Since the 2007 academic year, the TSU College of Agriculture has experienced an enrollment increase of 468% (as shown in the graph below).

s

Undergraduate Enrollment

On average, the undergraduate program has grown at a rate of 23% per year (as shown in the graph below).

s

Master of Science Program Enrollment

On average, our Master's program enrollment has increased almost 35% per year (as shown in the graph below).

s

Doctoral Program Enrollment

What started with just three students now sits at 39 Ph.D. students, a testament to our work in developing our doctoral program (as shown in the graph below).

The faculty and staff of the College of Agriculture will continue to work diligently to grow the undergraduate and graduate programs' enrollment figures by continuing to utilize our recruitment tools, scholarship offerings, year-round engagement with our students, internships, facilities, and of course, our greatest resource: the more than 70 outstanding faculty members spread across our five academic departments.
