Roles and Responsibilities of Staff
Dean/Director of Research/Administrator of Extension
Associate Dean for Extension
1. Oversee the development, execution, and reporting of Extension projects by faculty funded by capacity funds in
collaboration with the Dean/ Director of Extension.
2. Assist, mentor, and evaluate extension faculty in collaboration with Department/Unit Heads including workload
assignment. Also assure that faculty document activities in accordance with the workload.
3. Assist Extension faculty in hiring and supervising technicians, graduate/undergraduate students and other personnel to
execute projects/activities.
4. Assist Extension faculty in securing, executing, and reporting externally funded Extension projects/activities including
fiscal management/reporting in collaboration with Department/Unit Heads and TSU Grants Office.
5. Assist the Dean/ Director of Extension in policy development and personnel and budget management.
6. Oversee the TSU County Extension operations, including technical programming, personnel, and budgets in
collaboration with College Budget Office and the Dean/ Director of Extension.
7. Represent the Extension Administrator at the Association of Extension Administrators’ meetings, especially when the
Extension Administrator is unable to attend.
8. Serve as TSU administrative contact in matters concerning cooperation and interaction between the TSU and UT
Extension programs.
Associate Dean for Research
1. Oversee the development, execution, and reporting of research projects by faculty funded by capacity funds in
collaboration with the Dean/Director of Research.
2. Assist, mentor, and evaluate research faculty in collaboration with Department/Unit Heads including workload
assignment. Also assure that faculty document activities in accordance with the workload.
3. Assist research faculty in hiring and supervising technicians, graduate/undergraduate students and other personnel to
execute projects/activities.
4. Assist research faculty in securing, executing, and reporting externally funded research projects/activities including
fiscal management/reporting in collaboration with Department/Unit Heads and TSU Grants Office.
5. Assist the Dean/Research Director in policy development and personnel and budget management.
6. Manage research facilities and infrastructure in collaboration with the Dean/Research Director.
7. Oversee the College Grants Office, coordinate external grant proposals submission and facilitating pre/post-award
administrative matters in collaboration with Research and Sponsored Programs and the TSU Grants Office.
8. Represent the Research Director at Association of Research Directors’ meetings, especially when the Director is unable to
attend.

Manager, Office Operations and Events
1. Manage College Vehicle Fleet. Maintaining usage and maintenance records for federal purchased vehicles.
2. Manage College Human Resources Activities including, reviewing and approving employment actions in People Admin.
3. Process and maintain file for official documents that are sensitive and/or confidential in nature. Such as: Annual Staff
Performance Evaluations, Employment Contracts, Workloads/Time and Efforts Forms, Promotion and Tenure
Documents, Personnel Action Request Forms and Financial Interest and Disclosure Statements.
4. Serve as the College Civil Right Representative. Assist employees Complaints, harassment allegations and other civil
rights complaints and make recommendation and/or referrals
5. Monitor and approve Web Leave Reporting and Semi-monthly time certification for the Dean’s Office.
6. Ensures the efficient and effective functioning of the Dean’s Office; serving as the initial resource person.
7. Coordinate special events for the College as assigned.

Facilities Coordinator
1. Supervise construction projects/renovations from start to finish, including budget preparation and coordination of
activities.
Prepare project interpretation and technical information for Dean, faculty and staff. Report work progress and budget
matters to Dean and other pertinent parties. Coordinate with University Facility Management on selection
of architects/designers, engineers and other construction specialists. Assist with selection of sub-contractors, schedule
and coordinate their activities. Ensure compliance with legal requirements, building and safety codes and other
regulations.
Ensure the design and execution of projects comply with all TBR, University and Federal Facility Award regulations.
Ensure that projects do not to interfere with Faculty, staff or student activities.
Provide office/lab space for new faculty and researchers.
Coordinate the selection of new construction sites with the Dean and Facility Management Planning Design and
Construction.
Continue to develop the Main Campus Agriculture Research and Education Center. Plan and refurbish the Ashland City
Agriculture Research and Education Center.
2. Maintain an open line of communications with TSU Comptroller/Grants Management, Facility Management, Tennessee
Board of Regents and NIFA/USDA. Maintain open line of communications with all college personnel.
3. Federal Award Management: Ensure the approved objectives for facility awards are completed as specified and all
projects conform to design drawings.
Ensure that competent and adequate supervision and inspections are provided and maintained at the worksite to
ensure that completed work conforms to design drawings.
Monitoring day to day project performance to ensure that project goals and performance schedules are met and that
progress is reported to NIFA/USDA in a timely manner.
Ensure all reporting requirements are met.
4. Daily monitoring of maintenance in all CAHNS buildings to ensure satisfactory environmental comfort, that utilities are
functioning and any facility-related needs of faculty, staff and students are met. Ensure work orders for
repairs/maintenance are submitted to the University Facility Management Department.
