High Achievers Program

Specifically for Community College Graduates

The High Achievers Program encourages motivated and focused community college graduates to continue their education in food, agriculture, environmental, and other related sciences at Tennessee State University. The High Achievers Program assists students with college expenses by offering a unique research internship/work-aid program for both years of a student’s eligibility. This program is highly selective and seeks to enroll the best students from Tennessee's community colleges.

Purpose
1) Develop scholars and leaders in the College of Agriculture, Human and Natural Sciences.
2) Increase the number of students studying Agricultural Sciences and Family and Consumer Sciences.
3) Prepare a select group of undergraduates for graduate/professional school or higher entry employment positions.

The Award
The financial assistance of the High Achievers Program is awarded annually. It provides opportunities to gain valuable experience by working with the College’s senior faculty. Each student will work closely with a senior faculty mentor to assist in and/or conduct research, publish and present the research, and participate in summer internships or externships with local, regional or national research laboratories. Each annual award renewal is contingent upon the student’s performance based on eligibility requirements.

General Eligibility
•   Completion of a two-year degree (A.A. or A.S.) from a Tennessee Community College with a 2.75 or higher GPA
•   Be admitted to Tennessee State University and seeking a degree in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences or Family and Consumer Sciences
•   Enrollment Status: Full-time student; students must enroll in the bachelors of sciences in an agriculture and environmental sciences or family and consumer sciences degree program
•   Essay, application, and interview to assess motivation, work ethic, and communication skills
•   Must complete the FAFSA
•   Students must maintain a 2.75 or higher GPA each semester and full-time status

Application Deadline
All application materials must be postmarked no later than February 28 of the year applying.
