Sahli-Woodall ScholarshipsThese scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence, demonstrated leadership abilities, economic need, and a demonstrated interest in becoming a teacher. Applications must be made through the local STEA chapter.

Christie McAuliffe Scholarship Program

This scholarship is intended to assist and support a Tennessee resident who has demonstrated a commitment to a career in educating the youth of Tennessee. This is a one time $500 scholarship.

To be eligible, the applicant must:

  • be a rising college junior enrolled full-time in a teacher education program in an accredited Tennessee postsecondary institution, and
  • have completed at least their first semester of their junior year, and
  • have at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average, and
  • have an ACT or SAT score that meets or exceeds the national norm. 

Dependent Children Scholarship Program

This scholarship provides aid for Tennessee residents who are dependent children of a Tennessee law enforcement officer, fireman, or an emergency medical service technician who has been killed or totally and permanently disabled while performing duties within the scope of such employment.

To be eligible, the applicant must:

  • be a Tennessee resident and attend an eligible Tennessee college or university full time, and
  • be a dependent of a Tennessee law enforcement officer, fireman, or an emergency medical service technician at the time of the incident, and
  • complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and have a valid EFC.

 

Middle Tennessee Retired Teachers

Minority Teaching Fellows Program is intended to encourage talented minority Tennesseans to enter the teaching field in Tennessee.

To be eligible, the applicant must:

  • be a minority Tennessee resident and a U.S. citizen, and
  • be a high school senior or a continuing college student, and
  • be a high school senior who has achieved at least a 2.75 high school cumulative grade point average, and either scored a minimum composite score of 18 on the ACT or 860 SAT (math and critical reading only), or  
  • be a continuing college student who has achieved at least a 2.5 college cumulative grade point average.

Ned McWherter Scholars Program

This program in intended to encourage academically superior Tennessee high school graduates to attend college in Tennessee. Tennessee high school seniors starting their last semester in high school may apply.

To be eligible, the applicant must:

  • be a resident of Tennessee, a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and attend an eligible Tennessee college or university full time, and
  • have at least a 3.5 unweighted cumulative grade point average, and
  • have a minimum composite score of 29 on the ACT or 1280 on the SAT (math and critical reading only).   

Tennessee Teaching Scholars Program

This scholarship is intended to encourage exemplary students to enter the teaching field in Tennessee.  Participation is limited to college juniors, seniors, and post baccalaureate candidates admitted to a teacher education program in a Tennessee college or university.

To be eligible, the applicant must:

  • be a Tennessee resident and a U.S. citizen, and
  • have at least a 2.75 cumulative grade point average or higher if required for the teacher education program at their school of choice, and
  • be enrolled full-time if undergraduate or at least half-time if a graduate student, and
  • not be a licensed teacher, and not be employed or previously employed in a teaching position.
