With The FYVE
As a new Tiger, you will have the opportunity to meet your peers, engage with current student leaders, and get involved through the following platforms:
- Alpha Lambda Delta -First year honors society for students who maintain at least a 3.5 gpa in their first semester of college.
- Bloom Academy - Professional Development Program for first-year women.
- Build Institute- Professional Development Program for first-year men.
- Tiger Pal Mentoring - Peer to peer mentoring program for first-year students.
- University Ambassadors- Student leaders who serve as a first hand representation of Tennessee State University.

The Representative-At-Large for First Year Students serves as a liaison between the Student Government Association and the Office of First Year Experience. The purpose of this position is to host and assist with events within the FYE department, be an advocate for first year students, and report on behalf of each organization within the FYVE. The 2023-2204 Rep At-Large for First year Students is Chandler Cotton
University Ambassadors are student leaders who serve as a firsthand representation of Tennessee State University. These students help incoming first year students navigate campus and campus resources. Ambassadors not only support New Student Orientation as Orientation Leaders but many other First Year Experience programs throughout the school year.
Tiger PALs are Peer-Advocate-Leaders who serve as mentors to new and first-year students. This program was created to help incoming freshmen transition to Tennessee State University and the adjustments that come with college life. The Tiger PALs are each assigned 10-12 incoming students who they mentor, advise, and guide through their first year. Tiger PAL Mentors begin creating community with their mentees in July of each summer and are responsible for ensuring their mentees complete all admission/move-in requirements prior to starting in the Fall. Tiger PALs help facilitate Freshman Move-In and Freshman Welcome Week.
Bloom Academy is a leadership development program designed specifically for first-year women on the campus of Tennessee State University. The mission of this program is to recognize, enhance, and establish leadership traits while nurturing an understanding of self, others, and community. Participants will undergo a six week leadership program to include community service, etiquette and professionalism courses, self-awareness sessions, guest speakers and social events. Upon completion of the program, participants are given a completion ceremony where they earn their official blazers.
Build Institute is a leadership institution specifically tailored for first-year male students at Tennessee State University. The primary objective of Build Institute is to foster the development of academic excellence, mental well-being, professionalism, leadership skills, and create a sense of community among first-year males at Tennessee State University. Participants will undergo a six week leadership program to include community service, etiquette and professionalism courses, self-awareness sessions, guest speakers and social events. Upon completion of the program, participants are given a completion ceremony where they earn their official blazers.
Alpha Lambda Delta is a national society which honors high academic achievement in the first year of college. The purpose of the organization is to encourage superior academic achievement among students in their first year in institutions of higher education, to promote intelligent living and a continued high standard of learning, and to assist students in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for their roles in society.. At Tennessee State University, the ALD chapter is geared towards engaging students in academic based programs, providing a network of professionals outside the TSU community, and promoting scholarship opportunities in efforts to increase retention rates from year one to year two.
