Jarrett Barr
Jarrett Barr is a woodwind specialist hailing from Lima, Ohio. He received a Master’s Degree in saxophone performance from the University of Akron as well as a Bachelor’s degree in saxophone performance from Ohio Northern University. His primary teachers include Dr. Todd Gaffke and Dr. Henning Schroder, with additional woodwind studies from Dr. Erin Torres, Professor Cynthia Cioffari, Gene Parker, and others. He currently holds a position on the faculty at Tennessee State University, where he teaches saxophone. His private studio, Woodwinds by Jarrett, has a track record of preparing students for success in honors programs and other opportunities around central Tennessee.
Jarrett serves in the 338th Army Band, a position he has held since 2016. As a bandsman, he has the opportunity to perform around the country on saxophone, flute, and as his unit’s drum major. He is a member of The Mudbug Stompers dixieland band, The Middle Tennessee Woodwind Orchestra, and the Moria Saxophone Duo. Other performing opportunities include work with the Lima Symphony, Tennessee Valley Winds, and others.
A passionate collaborator, Jarrett is regularly involved in commissions for new baritone saxophone works. Most recently, the Moira Saxophone Duo performed at the 2023 North American Saxophone Alliance Conference, premiering three new works for baritone saxophones by David Biedenbender, Christopher Evan Hass, and Lydia Jane Pugh. Other consortium participations include works by Parker Fritz, Karalyn Schubring, and Austin K. Jaquith.
