Bioinformatics Program
Computer Science & Biological Sciences
Interdisciplinary program promoting research, training and outreach
The first and only undergraduate program in Bioinformatics in the state of Tennessee offers unique interdisciplinary training and research in computer science, biological sciences, mathematics, engineering, and ethics of today's fast-paced world.
The bioinformatics program established jointly by the Department of Computer Science and Department of
Biological Sciences, consists of the following:
The BS degree with bioinformatics concentration consists of a core curriculum that provides the basics of biology, computer science, an introduction to the field of bioinformatics, introduction to molecular genetics, and introduction to bioinformatics computing. The BS degree with concentration in bioinformatics requires TSU general education courses, specific training in the core course work of bioinformatics, and focused training in the areas of biology, genomics and computer science through other concentration-specific courses. The Bioinformatics Laboratory provides a learning environment for TSU students, and a research environment for the TSU faculty, graduate and undergraduate students. In our bioinformatics lab., students work on hands-on projects, and faculty conduct research. The bioinformatic Lab integrates research into education. |
