Faculty Led Study Abroad Program Description [from the Office of International Affairs website]
TSU faculty member(s) teach TSU courses which are specifically designed for the overseas location. Each program provides students with an academically enriching experience in the host country while also providing culturally relevant excursions that complement the academic experience. Programs are taught in English (with the exception of language credit programs) and are generally 3-6 credit hours. TSU Faculty Led Programs are available in the summer and are 2-4 weeks in duration, although a few options during spring and fall breaks also exist. While any student can participate in Faculty-Led programs, they work especially well for those who have not traveled abroad previously, are seeking more guidance and structure, and would prefer to travel with a group.
Steps to Create a Study Abroad Program:
1. A proposal must be submitted to Mark Brinkley (mbrinkley1@tnstate.edu) at the Office of International Affairs. Proposals must be submitted on a yearly basis. See links for specific information about the proposal process along with an example of the proposal.

2. Approval of a proposal signifies permission to communicate to students the opportunity to apply and be accepted to the program for that academic year only. As such, the course offered in the study abroad program will only be listed for a specific semester, and recurring programs must re-apply each year.
3. The listing of a course does not guarantee a program will make; rather, it depends upon the program reaching the minimum number of accepted students required for it to proceed. A study abroad program typically requires a minimum of six (6) full program fee students per instructor.
4. If a program fails to meet this threshold, alternative options are offered to students, such as joining another program that has met the minimum requirement or receiving a refund for their payments (excluding the non-refundable application fee).
The role of the Office of International Affairs (OIA) in this process is to grant approval, allowing the instructor to recruit students and facilitate their application and acceptance into the program. This ensures that students are aware of the opportunity and can participate in the study abroad experience.
