What is Summer Completion Academy?
Summer Completion Academy (SCA) is a rigorous four-week program that allows first-time freshmen admitted into Tennessee State University for Fall 2025 the opportunity to complete one or more learning support requirement (Writing, Reading, OR Math) and take a TSU course for credit while receiving quality instruction, college success information, peer engagement, and academic development.
SCA has concluded for 2024. Details about 2025 will be forthcoming in April 2025.

Am I eligible to apply for SCA?
Incoming Fall 2024 first-time freshmen who have:
- Been accepted to Tennessee State University as a First-Time Freshman for Fall 2024
- Completed the intent to enroll form
- Earned lower than an 18 (500 SAT) subscore on the writing or lower than a 19 (500 SAT) subscore on the mathematics and reading portions of the ACT. Learn more about standard college criteria here.
- NOT completed ENGL 1010 (Freshman English I) or MATH 1710 (Precalculus Algebra I) for dual enrollment, Advanced Placement, or International Baccalaureate credit.
What is the cost of participating in SCA?
Details about SCA 2025 will be released in Spring 2025.
Is the academy a residential program?
Yes. SCA will be a residential program where students will stay on campus for four (5) weeks. Students will go home every Friday and will be expected back on campus every Sunday by 4:00 pm.
How do I apply for SCA?
Details about SCA 2025 will be released in Spring 2025.
After being accepted for SCA, what are some things I must do?
After being formally accepted to SCA, students must:
- Submit FINAL High School and/or College Transcripts to Admissions
- Register for New Student Orientation Session on July 17, 2024
- Submit any requested documentation to complete the verification process with Financial Aid
- Submit All Immunization Records
- Apply for Campus Housing and Pay the Housing Deposit, if needed.
What will I need for SCA?
- Pen and Paper for notes
- Electronic Device with Internet Access
- Light Jacket (Classrooms may be cold)
