Ian Shapiro, PhD

Ian Shapiro joined the faculty in 2024. Ian specializes in American political behavior and political psychology---using surveys and experiments to study political attitude formation in the United States. His work focuses on understanding why people believe political misinformation and how racial considerations drive these misperceptions. His scholarship appears in the Oxford Encyclopedia of Political Decision-making and the Oxford Encyclopedia of Religion and Politics. He is originally from Xenia, Ohio, attended Denison University for his BA, and then was shipped off to the University of Colorado, Boulder for his MA and PhD (2021). From 2021-2023, Ian was Civic Engagement Fellow with the Brennan Center for Justice. In his spare time, Ian enjoys cycling, his Airedale terrier, and reading too many journal articles.
