Marquita Reed-Wright, PhD

Dr. Marquita Reed-Wright became a member of the faculty at Tennessee State University in 2024, serving as an Assistant Professor of History. Her research centers on the utilization of popular culture and material culture as memory by African Americans, enabling them to construct their own historical narrative. Her work also delves into the themes of identity and memory within the African American community. Dr. Reed-Wright obtained her Ph.D. in Public History with a specialization in Material Culture and African American History from Middle Tennessee State University in 2018. With substantial expertise in museum and archival management, she previously held positions as the Collections Manager at the National Museum of African American Music and as a Historical Research Specialist at the Center for Historic Preservation.
