Shameka Cathey, PhD
Shameka Nicole Cathey is an American politics scholar, focusing on the areas of Civil Rights, African American Politics, and Women, Gender and Sexuality. As a scholar-activist, she intentionally works to integrate applied research with social justice issues. She prides herself on working in partnership with students, colleagues and community advocates to uplift the freedom, affirmation, and celebration of all diverse identities. Dr. Cathey is currently completing an introductory text on African American LGBTQ politics and serves as the co-chair of the LGBTQ Caucus within the National Conference of Black Political Scientists (NCOBPS). She further serves the profession through membership in the American Political Science Association (APSA) and the American Society of Public Administrators (ASPA). In addition to her scholarly pursuits in American politics, Dr. Cathey is preparing for pastoral ministry and anticipates graduating with a Master of Divinity from Vanderbilt University in May 2021.
