Top Life Defining Moments in Higher Education:

  • Making the choice in my family to go on to college – the Bachelor’s degree was for my family, the Master’s degree was for my career, this doctorate is for every black and brown child who has dared to dream!
  • My grandparents seeing me walk across the stage.
  • Being able to travel all over presenting on research that is near and dear to me!
  • Being able to teach undergraduate and graduate students in a field that I’m passionate about!

When in College, I Experienced:

  • Learning who I am, what I believe, and what I represent
  • Battling imposter syndrome
  • Navigating college with little support from family
  • Financial stress and uncertainty
  • Relocation away from everyone that I’ve ever known
